Hispanic Heritage Month Activities in Spanish Class

The following has been shared by Ms. Dacarett (formerly, Ms. Rubio)-

"In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month which started on September 15 (marking the independence day of Central America the 16 of Mexico) and runs to October 15; we are having Hispanic guest speakers come and talk about the American dream in the eyes of the Hispanics.

Thanks to the collaboration of Rachel Sotello our turn out has been excellent. We have had several speakers come to my Spanish Pre-Ap classes and on October 13 we will also have Dr. Flores come and talk about the American dream in the eyes of Hispanics.

I also contacted the Hispanic Chamber of commerce and they sent me interviews that I will play through the year. I would like our students to have a positive image of immigrants no matter where they come from. I don't want them to just learn tolerance, but to feel like they can embrace and understand other cultures, which is what has chiseled this country."

Guest speakers included the following:
  • Claudio Cruz- former RRISD School Board Member, who retired from the military and education
  • Rigo Valles- a Round Rock Police Officer, who has served as a district Student Resource Officer (SRO) for several years
