Valedictorian and Salutatorian for Cedar Ridge Graduation 2017! Also, Qualifiers for Next Year's National Merit Program!

I'm so proud to introduce this year's Valedictorian, Arvind Raghavan, and Salutatorian, Marissa Maxim. Arvind will be attending UT Austin for Computer Science and Marissa will be attending A & M University for Political Science.

We have so many outstanding and competitive students in this year's senior class; ending up as 1st and 2nd is truly an outstanding accomplishment! Congratulations, Arvind and Marissa!

_______________________________________________________________________________

This year 12 Cedar Ridge High School juniors qualified for next year's National Merit Program. We hope all of them make it to the finalist status, but just qualifying is a huge accomplishment. The National Merit Scholarship Program uses students' PSAT test scores as the qualifying test. From approximately 1.5 million program entrants, each of these students is among the 50,000 highest scoring participants who will be recognized in the fall.

From the 50,000 high scorers nationwide, about 16,000 will be named National Merit Program Semi-finalists next September, representing the top scores in each state, and approximately 34,000 will be commended for their performance. Semifinalist will be the only students in the running to compete for about 7,4000 National Merit Scholarships offered in the Spring of 2018.

So, as you can see, these students performance has been outstanding. These students are all dedicated to success, not afraid to work hard and they believe in putting forth 100% effort. But those attributes alone did not create these results, those characteristics were accompanied by lots of love, encouragement, and support (plus perhaps occasional nudging) from parents, family, and teachers. Congratulations to each of you! We are incredibly proud of you all!

The students receiving recognition for qualifying for the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program are (alphabetically):

Peng-Yu Ang
Mikayla Catazaro
Alyssa Chamseddine
Bryn Dalrymple
Grant DeLoach
Gabriela Franco
Jameson Kampfe

CRHS Computer Science Students Accept Paid Summer Internships at Austin Research Laboratories

Computer science students, Matthew Pabst and Arvind Raghavan, have accepted paid summer internships at Austin Research Laboratories through the University of Texas at Austin. This apprenticeship exposes students to laboratory research and development and exposes them to what scientists and engineers do. They will work on projects over the summer and gain invaluable experiences and opportunities to learn more about different types of research done at ARL. Both students will be studying computer science at UT in the fall.

"I'm very excited to have the opportunity to research this summer with my peers and develop my computer science skills before attending the University of Texas!" ~ Matthew Pabst

"Getting to work with contractors for the Department of Defense with only a high school diploma will be really special!" ~Arvind Raghavan
