The Cedar Ridge staff wishes everyone a lovely and safe holiday! We will see students back on January 6, 2015!
Students who missed a final for some reason, are encouraged to come to school January 5 to make it up. We will have staff ready to administer any missed finals.
On Tuesday, January 6, students will report to designated classrooms to receive copies of their Spring Semester schedules. Student names will be posted, in alpha order, on lists in the cafeteria and front hallway, telling them to which room they should report to receive their schedule. Class sizes were analyzed prior to the break to allow us to make improvements where possible. Due to these adjustments, some teacher changes may have happened for students between the first and second semesters. Therefore, all students should pick up a new schedule to ensure they are following their most up-to-date schedule.
We appreciate all of your support and we look forward to a great Spring Semester!

Preparing for the Winter Holiday!
This past week was a busy one wrapping up the "6-weeks" in preparation for finals. The week ended very festively thanks to Mr. Salomon and his KRU men! They put up holiday trees in the courtyard, which really helped get everyone into the holiday spirit. KRU named them their KRU's-mas Trees!
Mr. Salomon teaches digital electronics, along with mathematics, which came in handy as he and the KRU installed flashing lights that danced to instrumental holiday tunes. They also invited staff members to add special ornaments to the trees, which many of them did.
The culminating surprise was when Santa showed up during the lunch periods. Many students had their pictures made with Santa!
If you had been on campus this past Friday, you would also have seen quite a few "special" holiday sweaters on campus. You will see a few examples of those creative creations below! Mr. Lewis won our staff's Ugly Sweater Contest.
Ms. White's Medical Microbiology Class created models of viruses which became their 12 Days of Viruses celebration!
Please don't forget that we will be following the finals schedule this week. You will find the schedule listed in my last blog post. Monday is the only full day for students. Tuesday through Thursday, students will be released at 1:15 pm and will not be served lunch on campus. Also, please remember that the district is requiring all students to attend their classes, even those they have exempted. Friday is the beginning of the students' winter holiday, and will be a work day for staff members.
Good luck to all of our students taking finals this week! Go Raiders!

Exemption Forms & Celebrating Our Seniors
I just want to give our students who have been retesting on one or more End of Course (EOC) state assessment this week a shout out! They have worked hard and taken the opportunities to retest seriously. I'm really proud of them. We have had almost a 100% attendance each day for the retest sessions. I also want to say "thank you" to Ms. Lyons, our campus testing coordinator. She has done a super job communicating with students, parents, and staff, as well, as organizing the whole testing process for our campus. Great job, Ms. Lyons! Thank you!
Today, exemption forms were passed out to students. Due to the new grade book/attendance system we are using this year, we had to adjust our process for preparing exemption forms. If your child has any questions about their exemption status, please have them report to the appropriate office, listed below, during the school day. The admin assistants in those offices will be able to assist them.
Last names beginning:
A-M report to office A212
N-Z report to office H131
It has been really exciting to hear from our seniors as they start receiving college and university acceptance letters! Just the other day, one of our awesome students shared with me that he has been accepted to the University of Texas Business Honors Program! We have amazing students and we have much to celebrate!

Thank you to our wonderful PTSA! Today we were treated with absolutely delicious pies to enjoy! We appreciate all the support and treats we receive from our PTSA!
The state has designated the week after Thanksgiving Holiday to be the week of End Of Course (EOC) retests for students who have not passed one or more of their state EOC assessments. If your child is needing to take one or more of those tests, you should have already received a letter from our Campus Test Coordinator, Ms. Kristin Lyons. Juniors who attended ACC in the summer to take U.S. History are also scheduled to take their U.S. History EOC test at this time. The schedule for the EOC retests/tests will be the following:

I also want to share the district's policy for attendance for all district high schools during finals week. The following message is being sent out to all high school communities:
Attendance Requirement Change during Finals-
Due to state compulsory attendance requirements, students are required
to attend classes during assigned times for semester exams,
including students who have earned exemptions. While we understand
that this is a change from previous years, Round Rock ISD high school
students must adhere to state policy. Students who do not attend class
during the scheduled semester exam period will be counted absent. For
the district's acceptable excused absences policy, please refer to the
Student Handbook, posted on the district's webpage.

Awesome Veteran's Day Celebration and National Letter of Intent Signing
Yesterday we had a very special Veteran's Day celebration for many of our local veterans. We were so honored to be able to host them for a delicious luncheon, made and served by our talented culinary students.
The entertainment was outstanding, as many of our Fine Arts students shared their talents with the veterans. Becca Morgan serenaded the guests with her harp as they were arriving and leaving.
Our Student Council officers served as hosts and hostesses, greeting the veterans and presenting them with a small gift of thanks. Student Council Vice President Zachary Smith lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and President Hannah Firl gave a heartfelt welcoming speech.
Our choir sang beautiful renditions of the National Anthem and the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Our amazing theater troupe, just off their run in the play Eurydice, shared touching descriptions of the admirable characteristics of a veteran, such as valor, honor, and courage.
Our fabulous Raider band wrapped up the celebration with rousing versions of the official songs from each branch of service. As each song was played, the veterans who served in that particular branch of service stood at attention and were recognized.
It was a huge honor and has become a much love Cedar Ridge tradition. We hope to have even more veterans join us next year to celebrate Veteran's Day. We want to show them that the younger generation truly appreciates their sacrifices and contributions to keep us free!
A special thank you to the two ladies who organized and made this all happen- Melanie Baldon and Susan Cantu!
Today, we had National Letter of Intent Signing for several of our students. It was a very proud moment for us here at Cedar Ridge. The following students signed letters of intent for next year-
Student Sport University
Kathleen Rousset Swimming North Texas University
Meachan Rousset Swimming North Texas University
Sofia Rauzi Swimming/Diving University of Texas at Austin
Blair Bartholomew Rowing University of Texas at Austin
Lashann Higgs Basketball University of Texas at Austin
Lauren Walker Volleyball Abilene Christian University
Ellie Gunderson Volleyball Midwestern State University
Congratulations on a job well done!

Principal's Brown Bag Lunch and Celebrations
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the Principal's Brown Bag Lunch this Thursday, however, our new Associate Principal, Nanette Deaton will be there in my place. Ms. Deaton has been serving on the Cedar Ridge Campus for the past year and a half as our Lead Counselor. Ms. Deaton has excellent knowledge of our mission and vision at Cedar Ridge, as well as the steps we need to take to reach our goals. Ms. Deaton has served as a campus principal in another district, and has served as an assistant principal in two Round Rock ISD middle schools. We are thrilled to welcome her on board as the associate principal. Please come to the Brown Bag Lunch Thursday and meet her.
We had a very exciting football game, last Friday night, against Westwood. We won 27 to 21, which gives us a spot in the playoffs! We will be playing Bowie High School this coming Friday night at the Burger Center, 3200 Jones Road, Austin, Texas, 78745. Come and cheer our Raiders to victory!
Our Raider Marching Band won a silver medal at Bands of America in the Southern California Regional Competition. Congratulations to them! They have certainly had an outstanding year!

Theater on the Ridge, Veteran's Day, and Principal's Brown Bag Lunch!
Don't miss our wonderful theater troupe in their current run of Eurydice! Eurydice is a Greek tragedy about the lengths a man, Orpheus, will go to find his wife, Eurydice, after her tragic death. Our talented troupe has set the play in modern times. They tell the tragic story with the perfect hint of humor. As always, the acting is compelling and the actors will make you laugh and cry in just a matter of moments. Tonight was opening night, and the play runs two more nights, Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm. Congratulations to the entire cast, crew, and teachers!
Please let your family, friends, or neighbors who are veterans know that we are hosting our annual Veteran's Day Luncheon this Tuesday, November 11th at 11:00 am in the CRHS cafeteria. We would love to have them join us. Our students will provide the entertainment.
I'm looking forward to the Principal's Brown Bag Lunch this Thursday, November 13th from 12:00-1:00 pm at the Lake Forest Clubhouse (2738 Lake Forest Drive). The event is being hosted by our very own Cedar Ridge PTSA. They will be providing drinks and dessert. I hope to see you there!

Wrapping Up Last Week...
Friday, Oct. 31st, was a busy day for the Raiders.
Some of our lucky teachers had the pleasure of judging the culinary students' pumpkin recipe contest. The students were creative and made some delicious treats, from pumpkin pasta to pumpkin desserts.
The swim team participated in the AISD Capital City Swim Classic. Our swimmers competed in heat after heat in a variety of events. It was exciting to see the students putting forth so much effort!
left, the girls in the pool to the right, and the pool in the back was for the diving competition.
Last week was Red Ribbon Week and the counselors ended the week on Friday by asking students to commit to being drug-free. Students also shared what they are passionate about by writing with sidewalk chalk on the courtyard concrete.

Expectations for a Safe and Fun Halloween
Tomorrow is October 31st, and therefore, Halloween is upon us! While we want students to have fun, we also want students to be safe. I want to share some expectations the district and the CR campus administrators have outlined for students regarding costumes and behavior. These expectations are for campus tomorrow and also for the football game at Kelly Reeves Stadium tomorrow night.
- Costumes must be dress code appropriate;
- No props are allowed;
- No masks or anything that covers the face is allowed;
- If using face paint, the student must still be recognizable.
We are also asking students not to bring anything that creates a mess, such as silly string, poppers, confetti, or colored powder/flour. So bring your Raider spirit, but not things that make a mess!
The district has informed us that there will be extra officers at the game to ensure the district expectations are followed. Students who are in costumes that do not fit the above expectations will not be allowed to enter the stadium.
I want everyone to enjoy themselves, but it is important to be aware of the expectations before-hand. Yesterday, all students were sent an email via their school gmail account informing them of our expectations. We also made an announcement today during school.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Have a great Halloween!
Building Bridges at the Ridge!
In my walks around the campus this week, I ran across students involved in problem solving and creative expression.
Some of Ms. Howell's art students were working on creative design of animal/human hybrids. They were vibrantly colored and beautifully drawn.
Mr. Mosley's Aquatic Science students were working on Basin River Projects during their study of the watershed. Some students showed me the salt water tanks the class has been preparing. If you look closely, you can see a large sea urchin in the upper corner of one of the tanks.
In Ms. Gabler's Concepts of Engineering class, students are working collaboratively on building bridges. Students used special software to model various possible designs, prior to choosing their final bridge design. Students sketched the chosen design in their notebooks and then started building. The bridges will be tested for strength and stability once they are completed.

Ms. Torres' students were analyzing hair under the microscope in their Forensics class.
Great news for the Cedar Ridge Family! We are so proud of the Cedar Ridge Raider Band and Color Guard, which has been selected to advance to the UIL Texas 6A State Marching Band Contest on Tuesday, November 4th at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Thank you, Mr. Calima, Mr. Brittain, Mr. Rodriguez, Mr. Carr, and Mr. Barberi, for your dedication to our students and to Cedar Ridge!
Student, you have an amazing work ethic, along with amazing talent!
We love you and we are rooting for you! The truth is, in our eyes, you are already #1!
Good luck next week!
