Welcome to the 2017-18 School Year at Cedar Ridge!

Welcome back, Raiders!! The Cedar Ridge staff and I are so excited about the 2017-18 school year ahead! We anticipate great thing for our students and staff. The district just switched all campuses to a new website template, so be aware that our website is “under construction.” Our webmaster is working feverishly to get everything up and running.

The first day of class for students will be Tuesday, August 22. Students will find their alpha room assignment to pick up their schedule posted in the cafeteria. We will have many staff members available to assist students in finding their assigned room. Once all logistics have been taken care of in the alpha assigned rooms, students will move to their first period class. The rest of the day will be regular A-Day for students. The school day has been extended by 5 minutes, per district policy. Therefore, the school day for all district high schools will start at 9:05 am and end at 4:20 pm. You can access the Cedar Ridge A/B Yearly Calendar and the Cedar Ridge Bell Schedule by clicking on the words. We encourage your child to take a picture of their schedule, so they will have it even if they misplace the paper copy.

The only students who will be allowed to see the counselors for a schedule change the first week of school are students whose schedules have one of the following- 1. a missing class for a specific period, 2. the same course scheduled twice, or 3. a mistake on the schedule. Our master schedule and teaching assignments for the 2017-18 school year were made based upon the classes students requested at the end of the 2016-17 school year. All students and parents met with their counselor to discuss schedule requests for the following year, and a Course Verification Sheet was sent home in the Spring as a last check to be sure the classes a student had requested were still the ones they wanted. Therefore, we will not be changing students’ classes unless there is a mistake or a problem with the schedule.

Please be aware that the counselors will be busy the first week enrolling new students and getting new students’ schedules created, so they will have limited availability for other things.

Mark your calendars for the Cedar Ridge Meet-the-Teacher Night, Monday, September 11. You will receive more details as we get nearer to the date.

I want to encourage everyone to communicate with a teacher directly if you have concerns about a class or your child’s progress in the class. You may email or call any of our teachers. Since several of our teachers rotate to different rooms to teach, it is most effective to email your questions, concerns, or request for a meeting. If after you have met or talked with a teacher, you still have concerns, then the next step would be to contact your child’s assistant principal or counselor for assistance. We know the best way to serve your child is by building a partnership between Cedar Ridge staff and parents, so please don’t hesitate contacting us. You can access the campus grading policy, Academic Integrity Policy, the RRISD Student/Parent Handbook, and Student Code of Conduct by clicking on the words in blue. You will find the RRISD policies, which the campus follows. Of particular interest would be the district Dress Code and Cell Phone/Personal Device guidelines.

We are thrilled to see the Cedar Ridge Fine Arts Auditorium almost completed. We anticipate it being “open for business” by early October. It will be a true learning space, as technical theater students will get “on the job training.” We look forward to many wonderful performances by Cedar Ridge students in the future. We also look forward performances by our Cedar Ridge feeder pattern elementary and middle school students!

The district has finally started work on the new Cedar RidgeAthletic Locker Room Facility.  (Floor Plan) Although there were a few disappointing setbacks we are so excited to see construction getting under way. The facility will be located within our Portable “village.” The latest update I was given projects the building to be completed by early November. We are staying positive and optimistic!

I look forward to sharing lots of wonderful things our students and staff are accomplishing throughout the year. I frequently post pictures, celebrations, and news related to Cedar Ridge High School on the school's Twitter account. Please follow us at @CedarRidgeHigh .
Please help support our campus by joining the Cedar Ridge PTSA. They provide excellent support for our campus. Their big project this year is to put in as many “Water Stations” as they can through fundraising and increasing membership. I know students and staff would greatly benefit from the water stations, so help PTSA provide those for the campus by joining the organization. Another important organization that needs all of our support is the Cedar Ridge Project Grad. We are encouraging everyone to get involved and support Project Grad, regardless of what grade your child is in. Project Grad will be held at Main Event this year and we expect a big crowd! Please donate or volunteer for Project Grad 2018! You can find links to both organizations on the Cedar Ridge Website.

We are celebrating our TEA Accountability rating.  We are so proud of our Science team for earning a Distinction Designation from the state this year! Please review our Accountability Summary.

You can review the revised meal prices by RRISD's Food Services here. You can also access the application for Free and Reduced Lunches.

Again, welcome to the new school year! We commit to making this a great year for your child(ren)!
