Project Graduation 2016 - In Critical Need of Officers for Executive Board PG 2016

It is time for new officers to be elected to the Project Graduation 2016 Executive Board. Typically, the volunteers for this would come from the parents of next year's graduating seniors, however, anyone can volunteer to serve this great organization.

Project Graduation is a national organization that ensures graduating seniors have a safe, "chemical-free", and very fun post-graduation celebration. The Cedar Ridge Project Grad team has ensured that every one of our Cedar Ridge graduating classes, so far, have had a great night of celebration after graduation, as well as safety for all concerned.

If parents or community members do not step forward to join the executive board, the Cedar Ridge Project Graduation Chapter is in danger of being dissolved. Please help prevent that from happening. The celebration can be as elaborate or as simple as the executive board decides, depending on the fund raising efforts and results. Many of the high schools in the district are having their Project Graduation celebrations at their high school to cut costs. It is up to you! So, please, consider helping to make sure we have a Project Graduation for our 2016 seniors!

Project Graduation will be meeting this Wednesday, May 27, at 7 pm in the Cedar Ridge Library.

Please email crhspgmaster@gmail.com to let them know of your interest in a board position or in supporting Cedar Ridge Project Graduation 2016.

This is a special invitation to parents of next year's Seniors, to please contribute your time and efforts to this great organization!

Ms. Searles Shares More Dance Magic!

The following post was shared by Ms. Searles, dance teacher extraordinaire and technology adventurer!-

"We'd love to share this blog from our VPA Blog with the Principal's Blog!
http://vpaacademy.blogspot.com/2015/05/dancing-through-pages-of-history.html

Each year, we chose a new subject source as inspiration for the choreography project for the Academy Ballet, Tap, and Jazz classes. This year the students have chosen a person, event, or era in US or World History as their inspiration for their piece. They researched and organized an eMaze to present before they dance for the class. Peers then voted on 1-3 pieces that represented their class in the 5th Annual Dance Academy Student Choreographer's Showcase on Tuesday May 19th. Images from their inspiration source were projected by the technical theater students on screens behind the dancer and the upper level classes also had video images that played on a small projector at the front corner of the stage. The dances were performed in historical order of events and we could not be more proud!

Telecommunications Class Exploring Routing and RRISD Article Features Our Own Raiders!

Last week we completed this spring's state of Texas End of Course (EOC) assessments. We hope all of our students did well. We should be receiving results in the next 2-3 weeks.

We also had a record breaking number of students taking Advanced Placement tests this year! College Board determines when each of the tests can be administered. AP tests are scheduled over a two week period. We were so proud of our students, many of whom arrived by 7:00 am, just to be sure they were ready to go! We can't wait for the scores to arrive!

It is hard to believe the year is almost over. Graduation is right around the corner. We hope everyone keeps working hard and sprints to the end!

Coach Reeves' Telecommunications Class is Exploring the Wonderful World of Routing. Students are working in a Team; Installing/Configuring Multiple Routers, Exploring Network Addresses Translation, as well as Implementing Dynamic Routing. The Telecommunications & Networking class is the 3rd course in the Computer Maintenance Program in the Business & Industry Academy.

Please check out this really nice article featuring Caileen Perez and Ryan Pauley and their outstanding performance at the International Career Development Conference. Go Raiders!

Cedar Ridge High School's First Literary Magazine & More Press Coverage for Students Involved With the Dell Project!

The following is a piece shared by Mr. Shands, the Cedar Ridge Literary Magazine and Yearbook Teacher. Mr. Shands includes information on how you can get a copy of the 2015 Cedar Ridge Literary Magazine, as well as listing the students whose work is shared in the magazine. -

THE BRAND NEW CEDAR RIDGE LITERARY MAGAZINE

For the first time ever, Cedar Ridge has a literary magazine! The new literary magazine is called The Muse. The Muse is 84 pages, printed in full color, and features dozens of poems, short stories, essays, and photographs.

The price is only $10. You can purchase your very own copy of the magazine right now in Room D116. They are also available at the student store. If you would like to look at a copy, all the English teachers have samples, as do all the art teachers and there are sample copies at the library.

The name for the new Cedar Ridge Literary Magazine came from Greek mythology, where the nine Muses were deities that gave artists, philosophers and individuals the inspiration for creation.

The muses were the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, the Titan goddess of Memory, and were born at the foot of Mount Olympus

All the ancient writers appealed to the Muses at the beginning of their work. When writing both the Illiad and the Odyssey, Homer asked the Muses to help him tell the story. Throughout the ages, from ancient Greece to the Renaissance artists to Shakespeare right until this very day, the Muses stand as symbols of inspiration and artistic creation.

A lot of the writing submissions came from students in the Creative Writing class and the Creative Writing Club. Lots of other students also submitted their poetry and short stories. The artwork came from all of Cedar Ridge’s art classes. The photography came from several students who submitted their photos, and from the Excalibur yearbook archives so we could feature the performing arts such as theatre, dance, choir, orchestra and band,

The student literary magazine features the work of Alexa Spencer, Chris Nobels, Haley Watson, Madison Carnline, Kristina Stith, Zachariah Collins, Jack Ryan Perez, Sierra Cortez, Miranda Marquez, Madeline Cecil, Rydyr Lindner, Nicholas Houser, Gabriella Alvarez, Rachel Cain, Josh Lau, Daniel Mandelbau, Jena Kaaki, Quinn Johnson, Mitchell Roughton, Emily Joubert, Shelby Chew, Desiree Louma, Mario Cotto.
